Employment Principles
Balfour Beatty Ireland operates to the following Employment Principles:
  • To provide safe and healthy working conditions for all employees.
  • To provide an open, challenging, rewarding and participative environment for all who work in the company.
  • To utilise, through selection, training and development, the full talents, skills and abilities of all employees.
  • To communicate the fullest possible understanding amongst employees of the goals, directions and performance of the company and its constituent parts.
  • To provide compensation and benefits which reflect good current local practices and which reward collective and individual abilities and personal performance.
  • To provide a working environment, development opportunities and incentives to promote team effort and commitment to the performance of the Company.
  • To ensure open, competitive access to career opportunities.

Equal Opportunities
  • Balfour Beatty Ireland is an equal opportunity employer. The organisation has a policy that no job applicant or employee will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of colour, race, nationality or national or ethnic origin, disability, sex, gender reassignment, marital status, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, or is disadvantaged by any other condition or requirement that is not essential for carrying out the job. The effectiveness of the business will only be improved by developing the skills and abilities of all employees and this policy aims to achieve this objective.

Training
  • Balfour Beatty Ireland aims to utilise, through selection, training and development, the full talents, skills and abilities of all employees. The investment made in training at every level to improve the effectiveness of our employees is vital if we are to maintain competitive advantage and sustain continuous growth of our business.
  • The Personnel and Training functions in the Group provide a professional support service to assist and advise the manager in discharging this responsibility.
  • Each member of staff is expected to take responsibility for his/her own self-development and learning and to take advantage of the training and development opportunities available.
  • All staff should be given the opportunity to participate in regular performance and career development reviews, at which training and development needs should be identified.
  • Training and development needs will be assessed and access to training given without discrimination in line with the Group's Equal Opportunities Policy. Appropriate training will be provided for disabled persons, taking into account their particular needs.
  • All employees will receive appropriate training in health and safety.

Communications

We employ a variety of methods to communicate key business goals and issues to employees.

We use a number of vehicles to communicate with our employees, particularly the Cascade Briefing system, which encourages upward communication. Regular Employee Satisfaction surveys take place, through which employees are able to give views to the Company on a variety of topics, and highlight any areas of concern.

Newsletters and various in house publications ensure that employees are informed about business developments across Balfour Beatty. IntraCEL, our company intranet, gives employees access to the latest news and information on Company procedures and standards.

Communication is, however, a two way process, with the aid of our employee satisfaction survey, our communication methods and channels are analysed, refocused and retested, using the valuable feedback which our staff provide.

We encourage our staff to communicate with us; listening is an ongoing process.
