Balfour Beatty has been awarded, in a joint venture with CLG Developments Ltd (CLG), a €492m contract by Bord Gais Networks.
The nine-year contract is for the installation and maintenance of vital gas transmission and distribution networks across Ireland, including the delivery of new construction, emergency response and planned maintenance services. Work will commence early in the New Year.

In June, Balfour Beatty Ireland have successfully completed a return visit to Clongriffin Railway station on the Dublin Belfast Line, to complete extensive new Overhead Line works associated with the construction of a new turn-out for Irish Rail. In 2009, Balfour Beatty undertook the Overhead Line Modifications required to facilitate the construction of the station. The current works have seen the design and construction of a new OHL catenary and associated structures for the new loop line. Works have been undertaken at night under full railway possessions, with specialist works undertaken by Balfour Beatty Rail crews. The successful delivery of another specialist rail project, demonstrates the capability of Balfour Beatty Ireland to draw on the wide range of expertise within the Balfour Beatty Group, to offer technical and competitive solutions to our clients.

Balfour Beatty Ireland have successfully completed the upgrade of runway 10/28, the principal runway at Dublin Airport. The works included a complete thin surface course overlay of the existing runway pavement, significant structural pavement repairs, and an upgrade of the AGL ground lighting system. The successful delivery of the project is a testament to the hard work of the site team who have worked under testing conditions, at night, over the past 6 months to ensure that the impact on airport operations was minimised.

Balfour Beatty Ireland have been awarded a design and build contract by the National Oil Reserves Agency to carry out the refurbishment of the existing mainland tankfarm at Tarbert Generating Station , Co. Kerry. Once refurbished, the tanks will provide up to 145,000 tonnes of strategic storage capacity for Kerosene, Gas Oil, and Diesel. The works include significant mechanical refurbishment to the existing tanks, and reconstruction and upgrade of the tankfarm bund arrangements.

Works have been successfully completed on our Donegal Airport Reconfiguration contract. The project involved a full overlay of the existing runway surface, along with associated drainage, ducting and other infrastructural works. In addition a full upgrade of the AGL lighting system has been undertaken. The completion of the upgrade works is an important milestone for the regional airport, which acts as an important gateway to the Northwest Region. Throughout the project Balfour Beatty worked closely with local suppliers and sub-contractors.

Balfour Beatty have commenced works on the realignment of the R407 at Portgloriam near Kilcock, Co . Kildare. The works , on behalf of Kildare County Council, will inviolve the complete reconstruction of the existing single carriageway over a 1km length. The project will require the implementation of long term traffic management and the execution of the roadworks in a number of phases. The project is expected to be complete in May 2011.

Balfour Beatty Ireland have commenced the reconstruction and reconfiguration of the set down lanes adjacent to the short term carpark at the main terminal in Dublin airport. The project will involve the complete reconstruction of the carriageways and associated roadworks in this extremely busy area. Management of traffic and a high volume of pedestrians will be a priority.

Balfour Beatty Ireland have successfully completed and commissioned the design and construction of a new 17,000m3 capacity surface water attenuation facility located in the long stay Eastlands Carpark at Dublin Airport. The project also included the installation of new large diameter surface water pipelines to cater for run-off from recent land side development at the airport, including T2.

Balfour Beatty Ireland have just commenced works on the construction of additional car parking facilities for the Institute of Technology in Blanchardstown. The works involve the expansion of the existing parking facilities and perimeter road as well as construction of a new set down area incorporating a raised table ramp including new drainage and attenuation, and the provision of additional street lighting and security measures. Works are planned to be completed for the start of the new term in September.

Balfour Beatty Ireland have successfully completed the final element of the Clongriffin OHLE Alterations Project, on the Dublin to Belfast railway line. The works, carried out for Gannon Homes, involved significant alterations to the existing Irish Rail DART line overhead catenary system to facilitate the construction of a new station at the location. Balfour Beatty works included the installation of new masts and portal structures,and the lowering of the overhead catenary network over a length of approximately 500 metres through the proposed station area. The final phase of the works involved extensive catenary modifications with specialist overhead line rail crews from Balfour Beatty Rail, carrying out the works. All works were carried out at night under track possessions, and under the supervision of Irish Rail.

Balfour Beatty Ireland have just commenced works on the recently awarded Apron Reconstruction Phase 2 project for DAA at Dublin Airport. The works consist of the reconstruction of approximately 7000m2 of PQ concrete to apron slabs adjacent to Pier A in the heart of the airport. Works are due to be completed in July 2009.

Balfour Beatty Ireland have just completed their first contract at Dublin Port. The project involved earthworks operations to backfill the existing Graving Dock No.1 at the port. Works were completed in a tight timeframe before Christmas to allow the Dublin Port Company access to the area for their operations.

Balfour Beatty Ireland have just completed significant remodeling and renovation works in Pearse Station, one of the countries busiest railway stations. The works involved modifications to the existing station infrastructure and the construction of new works to allow the installation of a new automatic ticket validation system by Irish Rail. The works included platform alterations, new ducting and service corridors, renovations to the existing concourse, new electrical fit out and the construction of a new ESB sub station located in the existing brick arch vaults.

Following successful completion of our Airfield Drainage Strategy Phase 1 Project for the Dublin Airport Authority, Balfour Beatty Ireland have just been successful in securing Phase 2 of an overall programme to attenuate water from the airfield at Dublin Airport. This Design and Build project will involve the construction of a 6500m3 reinforced concrete tank to store polluted water and the installation of approximately 5.5 km of 1800mm and 2000mm diameter corrugated steel pipelines to attenuate surface water. All works are being carried out airside at Dublin Airport under the strictest of Health and Safety Controls.

Balfour Beatty Ireland have recently secured their third project at Dublin Airport as part of the Airfield Pavement Framework. The contract will involve the repairs and reconstruction of sections of airfield pavement and apron slabs. Works are due to commence during March and will be carried out over 2008. Balfour Beatty Ireland look forward to a continuation of our good working relationship with the Dublin Airport Authority.

After several months of complex construction , the new pedestrian footbridge over the existing N81 dual carriageway has been opened to the public on the 12th November. The opening of this new structure has been welcomed by the local community. The opening ceremony was attended by pupils from the adjacent St Dominics and Scoil Columkilles schools who were given the honour of being the first members of the public to cross the new structure.

Following on from the successful completion of the M1 Business Park Industrial Units, Balfour Beatty Ireland have just been awarded a contract for the construction of new roundabouts, and a new site access to site C at the business park. Works have commenced on site with drainage and earthworks operations ongoing. This €2 million contract, is our third project at the Business Park, and we look forward to working again with our Client, Treasury Holdings. Works on the site are due to be completed in March 2008.
