Clongriffin Station OHLE Works
Following on from the successful delivery of the DASH Project in 2004, Balfour Beatty Ireland have recently completed another successful OHLE project , at Clongriffin, on the Dublin Belfast railway line.
The works were carried out for Gannon Homes, and involved significant alterations to the existing Irish Rail DART line overhead catenary system, to facilitate the construction of a new station at the location. Balfour Beatty works included the installation of new masts and portal structures, and the lowering of the overhead catenary network over a length of approximately 500 metres through the proposed station area. Balfour Beatty carried out a redesign of the foundations for the new structures, which were installed using an innovative screw pile solution to minimise disruption to the existing tracks during the installation period.
The OHLE catenary modifications were carried out by specialist overhead line rail crews from Balfour Beatty Rail, who were involved in the original DASH works in 2004.
All works were undertaken at night under track possessions, and under the supervision of Irish Rail. Meticulous planning and project management ensured that the project was successfully delivered with minimal disruption to the operations of the line.
This project demonstrates the ability of Balfour Beatty to draw on the wide range of capability and skills within the group , and combine them seamlessly to deliver an integrated solution on technical projects of this nature.
